General plumbing repairs

Most plumbing calls come down to something leaking, something running that should have stopped, or pressure that has dropped away. Whether it is a leaking cylinder, a water main under the drive or a tap that has never sat right, we do plumbing repairs across Wellington and the Hutt Valley:

  • Leaking taps and mixers
  • Running toilets
  • Low water pressure
  • Burst and leaking pipes
  • Hot water cylinder leaks
  • No hot water
  • Toilet and tapware replacement
  • Dux Qest replacement and repipes

If you are not sure which of these it is, call us on 021 607 658 and describe it.

Plumbing maintenance

At PGM, we pride ourselves on providing exceptional maintenance plumbing, to ensure everything in your home is running as smoothly as possible.

When we put in a new hot water cylinder we replace the old pipework feeding it, and while a tap is apart we check the isolating valve behind it. If we are under the house for one leak, we look at the joints either side of it.

If you would rather not wait for something to fail, we will book a check: the water main, tap washers and isolating valves, the cylinder and its pressure relief valve, and any pipe that has started to knock. It costs less than the repair it prevents.

We also provide plumbing maintenance and repair services to commercial properties and property managers. If you have something that needs looking at, call us now on 021 607 658.

Frequently asked questions

What do plumbing services cost in Wellington?

It depends on the job. Smaller jobs are charged at an hourly rate plus materials, and on bigger jobs we quote the whole thing up front. What moves the price is access, the age and condition of the existing pipework, and whether the fittings are a standard size or something obsolete. Ring us and describe the job and we can usually give you a sense of it over the phone.

What is the 135 rule in plumbing?

It is a drainage design principle: the direction changes in a horizontal drain run should not add up to more than 135 degrees, for example one 90 degree bend plus one 45, before the line reaches a vent or a cleanout. Every bend slows the flow and gives waste somewhere to catch, so keeping the turns gentle is a large part of what stops a drain blocking later.

Do you do emergency plumbing?

We work business hours, Monday to Friday, and we do not do after-hours callouts. Inside those hours we respond fast. If water is going somewhere it should not right now, turn it off at the toby, the valve near your boundary, and then ring us. If you can smell gas, your gas supplier's emergency line comes first.

Are you licensed and certified?

Yes. Steve holds the ticket for both plumbing and gasfitting, so the plumbing and the gas work on a job are handled and certified by us rather than split between two trades. Gas work is regulated in New Zealand, and every gas job we do ends with a Gas Safety Certificate.

What suburbs do you cover?

We cover Wellington city, Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt and Porirua, including Petone, Wainuiomata, Stokes Valley and Eastbourne. We are based in Wainuiomata and work business hours, Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 5:30. If you are not sure whether you are in range, ring us on 021 607 658 and ask.
